A: Once teams are formed your coach will contact you with practice dates, times and locations.
A: Most of our divisions include children born in two birth years, i.e: in 2019 our 14U division includes those born in 2006 and 2007. If your children's birth years naturally coincide within the divisions, you can request they play together.
A: We never allow children to play down an age bracket, and rarely allow players to play up an age bracket. It is unsafe for younger players to have an older child playing on the same field and unfair to a younger child to playing up.
A: Making new friends and learning from new teachers is an important part of social development. Beginning at 8U, we do not allow team mate or coach requests. The only exception is when a Coach and Assistant Coach and their players are placed on the same team (consider it a reward for volunteering).
A: Players are placed in divisions according to their birth year. In older ages, we combine kids from multiple birth years to form single divisions. For the current Membership Year, visit newportayso.com and check the AGE DIVISION CHART on the home page.
A: AYSO is an All-Volunteer program. We express our love and commitment to our children and community by actively being a part of their lives. Through service we teach essential life lessons. We were founded by volunteers and without volunteers we would not exist today. As an all-volunteer program, we are granted access to fields and pay reduced prices for city amenities. Those savings are passed down to families in our community in the form of low-prices. We ask all parents to contribute their most valuable commodity, time. Each season we need, hundreds of coaches, referees, team parents, and board members to organize and deliver a high quality experience to our community. Please learn more about volunteering on our Volunteering page.
A: AYSO Membership Year (MY) starts August 1st and runs through July 31st. The National Fee includes Soccer Accident Insurance which runs for the same period. The Membership Year may include Fall, Spring and special seasons, like All-Star.
A: In 2017 all of US Soccer moved to a birth year registration system, and our fall season starts in August. So some kids will be 7 years 9 months and some will be 8 years 8 months at the beginning of the season. But all the kids will turn 9 during the calendar year.
A: Your child's birth certificate (or other proof such as a passport) is used to determine birth date, which determines their age and division. It is only necessary the first time you register your child. Our Registrar is the only person who will review it.
A: As an All-Volunteer Organization, our volunteers have lives outside of soccer. General questions about registration can be sent to our Registrar. Otherwise, please refer to the Contact Us page to find positions and responsibilities to send an email to the appropriate person.
