The AYSO ALL-STARS program is an additional opportunity for the higher performing, recreational player (CORE Program) to participate in a short Winter season of soccer. The season will run during the month of January. Practices begin in December once team registration is complete. There may be two practices a week. There is a small fee for the Winter program (usually around $75). An All-Star uniform is provided. (A sweatshirt and ball bag may be optional.)
Player Eligibility: Any player that played in the AYSO Fall season is eligible to be nominated by their coach to attend the tryout for their division. EXTRA program players CANNOT play in the All-Star program.
Coaches: The All-Star team coaches for each division are coaches from teams that played during the regular season in those respective divisions and are required to submit an application to be considered for the All-Star coaching position for their age division. The coaches are vetted by the board and selected by a Committee of Board Members to fill the coach positions for each division.
Age Groups: This year the age groups for Boys and Girls All-Stars will be: U10, U12 and U14.
Selection: Each current recreational head coach is asked to nominate a set number of players as All-Star nominees who are invited to attend the tryout sessions in November. A committee of advanced or higher certified coaches, selected by the Regional Commissioner, conducts the tryouts and forms the teams. Players selected for the All-Star team for their division will be notified in late November. Practices begin in December and players will play two games each weekend (usually on Saturday) for the duration of the All-Star season.
Format: All-Star teams will play teams throughout Area Q (Tustin, Yorba Linda, Costa Mesa, Corona Del Mar, North Irvine and South Irvine) so travel will be required. There will be an away game and a home game in the same day, usually about 3 hours between games. Makeup games due to field problems or rain will be played on the following week, Sunday.
Parents and players should consider the commitment required to participate in the program prior to accepting an All-Star invitation.
